Dr. Mirjana Povic awarded the 2021 Jocelyn Bell Burnell Inspiration Medal Award

We would like to express our sincere gratitude and happiness in congratulating Dr. Mirjana Povic for being awarding the  2021 Inaugural Jocelyn Bell Burnell Inspiration Medal award. The European Astronomical Society awards the Jocelyn Bell Burnell Inspiration Medal to Dr. Mirjana. Her work is on developing astronomy, science, and education as a route out of poverty and to improve the quality of life for young people in Africa.

Prof. Mirjana Pović has been greatly contributing to the development of Astronomy, science, and education in Africa over the past 10 years, and also for starting/strengthening collaborations with Europe. She has led or co-led different projects and initiatives in several African countries, participating in the IAU Office of Astronomy for Development (OAD), the East-African Regional OAD, and the African Astronomical Society (AfAS).

  1. The award embarks a new era in the attaining of the projected objectives of inspiring youth in Astronomy, Space Science and STEM career as a whole. Girls and female need not to go further looking for the role model, here she is. Congratulations to her, congratulations to all the institutions she is affiliated to and other colleagues that might have in one way or another contributed to this award which remains a remarkable inspiration across cosmic time.
